We're the hub that makes it all happen
I’ve been here 15 years and zigged and zagged throughout this business. I’m in marketing at the moment. That’s my ninth role here so far and I’m still going strong!
Working across the breadth of the business means you get a 360 degree understanding of Toyota and where you can fit in. Just because you’re in information services or new vehicle operations, doesn’t mean you can’t move into marketing or sales.
They believe in sizing up your strengths and helping you really go after your potential. If you’re good at something or want to give it a go, they’ll do what they can to make it happen.
For me, that’s meant being part of different teams and developing new competencies. Never standing still or getting stale. I’ve been lucky enough to have world-class Prince2 project management training that really boosted my confidence and skills - and enabled me to become a subject matter expert for the business. I’ve had the opportunity to see parts of the world too – global Toyota training in Amsterdam and Japan was pretty amazing.
I’ve got a young family so I’m not into taking big risks but I do need new challenges. At Toyota I’ve got the best of both worlds. The challenge and thrill of taking on new roles with the security of a strong corporate business that’s become like a family.
There's no straight career pathways here. If you've got what it takes, you'll get to do what you love."
Yes, our National Customer Centre is in Palmerston North and is made up of all the key departments that provide support to the Authorised Toyota Dealerships across New Zealand. Living in the Manawatu is all about lifestyle. It’s close to the mountains and beaches, Wellington and the wine trails of Hawkes Bay – not to mention top schools and value for money in the housing market!
We look for people with special characteristics first, then skills second. We call this ‘Toyota-ness’: drive and commitment, decision making, resilience, values and ethics and tons of initiative. If you’re an all-rounder with a desire to contribute and learn, that’s a great start. If you don’t drive a Toyota, expect to be grilled about why not!
Your career with us could take you in any direction. We believe that if you can dream it you can do it, so if you have a passion or talent for a particular area of our business, we’ll get behind you to help make it happen! Just because you start in information services, doesn’t mean you couldn’t end up in parts, business planning or marketing – which is one of the reasons people stay with Toyota for so long.
